Finally getting around to making the steel brackets for the Hyundai Tiburon seats I scored at the junkyard.
I have a table-top band from Harbor Freight that uses a 62" blade. The ones I have are for cutting aluminum and are not putting a dent in the 3/16" steel.

Question is... what type of blade do I need for this thicker steel? I see a couple on Amazon but thought I would get some insight here first. Thanks

If the saw was not specifically designed to cut steel, it is likely running too fast and will dull the blade in a few seconds.  You need to run the blade at about 200-300 sfpm for steel with a bi-metal blade.  Most band saws for wood are running 10x that. What model saw do you have?

Yup.. I should have caught this... I have an old HF metal cutting bandsaw & assumed the new version of the saw has a smaller blade... Not the case, your saw is way to fast for cutting steel....

Yea, I have the basic bench-top harbor freight model.... https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/power-saws/13-hp-9-in-benchtop-band-saw-60500.html

If this won't work, any suggestions on bench-top saw that will? I am willing to purchase a new saw if that's what it takes.

That is a wood saw and will disappoint quickly, cutting steel.  It would cut aluminum though with a good blade. No real affordable bench top saws capable of steel I am aware of but do a search.  I use an older version of this one.  Usually can find them used for $100-150. They are not big and can work very well but need a little tuning for best results.  Lots of tuneup info on the net.  Works both upright and horizontal.

If space is a mandatory consideration, and it usually is for me too, then a portable band saw is probably best option.  Many versions out there and you can get/make kits that convert it to a benchtop free standing tool.

You could make something like this from MDF/Plywood for about $30-50 if you are handy

You can do almost anything with a zipcut or a metal cutting disc in a skil saw. You have to be patient and sometimes you have to do it twice though.

@gzig5 Thanks for the suggestion.
That HF 10 amp looks like it would do the job. Just watched a YouTube vid on it and the guy was slicing through 1/4" steel easily. Going to pick one up in tomorrow hopefully.
