which holes for the headliner bows

Hi Guys,
My headliner was out of the car when I got it, there are three holes on each side of the bodywork for the ends of each bow, which of the three holes do I use at each bow please???

The three holes make for adjustability of the bow placement, therefore you use the one that works best with the headliner you're installing

I understand that they are for adjustment, is the end goal to keep the bows up very close to the roof skin or other?
