Hello all!!

Officially the proud owner of a 1973 Challenger!!

My dad bought it off the showroom floor in fall of 72. It has 64,203 miles. to my amazement everything has held up well for it's age. some rattles and creeks here and there. mainly with the center console. it's always been garage kept and hardly driven. the original spare tire has never touched the ground. still wrapped and has the blue on the letters.

I'm here to learn/read everything. I know the day will come when I have to replace or fix something, and to be honest I don't know anything about carb cars. They look super simple. but, I have my doubts. They definitely don't make them like this anymore.

I do have a question about starting it though... sometimes you have to push the t handle forward to start the car. my guess is there is a sensor there?!?!

Welcome to the site
Awesome that you still have the car your dad bought new too  :wave:
the sensor is in the trans   / Neutral safety switch  , so the linkage is slightly out of adjustment or a bushing is worn , there is an adjustable slider on the linkage at the trans shift lever .

you wouldn't happen to have pictures of what you're talking about would you?? to be perfectly honest I'm scared to death of taking things apart on this car. I'd probably cry if something broke. If it wasn't original I'd be more inclined to dig in.

**I found a thread from 7212Mopar about a safety switch with some pictures. I was asking for pictures of the adjustable slider you mentioned. sorry

Trying to find a decent picture
this show the 2 levers , the adjuster sits in the longer lever on the side of the trans right beside the neutral safety switch .
Are you asking about my Chall ?

Above link to TTI exhaust that shows a picture. You do not need to modify yours. It shows a sketch for the stock orientation. You want to loosen the lock nut at the horizontal linkage rod. Push T handle to park and then tighten the nut back. That should do it.

Here's a picture from my Service manual. I know it's a 1970 but yours should still have that "LOWER ROD".
