Hello, everyone.  Many of you know me from other forums C-C.com.  I own a 70 Challenger R/T. Here's some of the documentation I have.

Really nicely optioned car!  Are you in the process of restoring it?  I have a really nice (in my mind perfect) FY1 PPG color mix that I would be happy to share with you.  FY1 can be a be a hard color to get right.

Thank you!  I have been collecting parts for it and they aren't easy to find as you well know.  The sill plates are hard to locate but see that they are being reproduced. 

It's on the back burner for the time being.  I would very please to get the paint mixture codes from you.  I know that Top Banana Yellow is supposed to "POP" if it's the right shade.

You and I have talked before on FB.  There is rust.  It will need quarters, trunk floor and extensions and possibly wheel wells.  Doors are gorgeous and original to the car.  I planned on buying sheet metal from Dyancorn.  What's your opinion on Dynacorn?

Any metal from any supplier will all need to be fitted and take some "modification" to make fit perfect.  Nobody (not even NOS) is plug and play lego style.  So as long as the metal is as thick as the original and the body lines are right, I can pretty much make any of it look perfect.

The FY1 "Pop" is a hard thing to do without making the yellow look wrong / too bright or too dull.  I did a ton of spray out tests (maybe 20+ mixtures) trying to get the right look and factory appearance without it looking to dull or too bright.  I targeted 3 to 4 coats so it would be easy to spray and get even coverage.  Here's what it came down to (all test done over white sealer):

~ Using the stock PPG FY1 mixture: with 1 coat it's too bight, 2 coats it is very close but on the dull side and 3 or 4 coats and it's way to dull and has no pop.  In a perfect world 1.5 coats with the stock mix would be perfect.  But that's not enough coats to get a nice even coverage.

~ FY1 Mix listed below adjusts the factory mix so after 3 to 4 coats it looks likes 1.5 coats of the stock mix.  This allows you to very easily put down enough base to get great coverage leaving no chance to blotch, blotch or flop on you and still looks like it should.  Not to bright and not to dull.  Plus if you ever need to do any repair work it will match perfectly and being easier to do with 3 to 4 coats.

No matter what you do, always use the same amount of coats on everything.  From start to finish.  Using the mix I made will give you more wiggle room and still match, but it's always good to stick to the same amount of coats.  I used 4 coats on my car.

Yep, know all about fitting panels, used to work in a body shop out of high school, graduated in 79 so I've seen a lot cool cars.  I bought a Dynacorn trunk lid and I am very please with their workmanship.  I also like the weld thru primer that is on all the pieces, that saves time and labor. 

I've owned quite a few cars and just to mention a few,

1966 Charger, Poly 318 car, nothing special
1968 Charger R/T, Should have kept this one
1969 Road Runner Convertible, took to the scrap yard 1979/1980
1971 Super Bee, owned since 1985, 2016 Chrysler at Carlisle crank up party, ops wrong picture!
