Selling a complete, running E440 HP engine as shown.  Runs strong, about 140 PSI +/- on all cylinders.  Fairly aggressive cam, Edelbrock carb, MSD distributor and 6AL ignition etc.

Would love some feedback on what I should ask for it - I understand it is an unknown and you are taking the word of a stranger behind a computer.  I have someone local interested, and he heard the engine run before we pulled it out - I only have this very lame video my kids shot :))

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy horsepower and that's kind of the same thing.....

Can you decode what it came from?
Would be worth considerably more if reunited with original car.

I sold a complete 340 when I did my Gen 3 swap.
Engine ran great, had FiTech FI, X-heads, factory HP exhaust, guy was local and heard it run before I pulled it.
I got $2500, it was probably worth more, but not having to wade through buyers and shipping, I let it go.

Older pic, before the FI

Hoping someone smarter than I can decode it based on the stampings in the pics - 9B31407 VIN stamp so all I know is 1969 and Hamtramck plant  :dunno:

Hey all, any ideas on what I should ask for the engine?  Was thinking $3500 - $4500 ish considering I dont have much info on it - thoughts?

Would like to unload it so do not want to ask a price where it sits forever, but trying not to go broke and recover some coin towards the parts I keep buying :D

Do we know the specs on the cam, does it still have it's heavy OEM connecting rods, or does it have newer pistons and rods?

The more you know about the engine, the more you can get for it.  The less you know, it devolves into more of a grab-bag for the buyer.  If you're looking to move it, I'd be surprised if it took longer than a week to sell it locally for $2000.

Demand for used 440 engines isn't what it used to be.  But for those seeking a (nearly) numbers matching motor, you may find more interest over on https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/ as it seems likely this engine came in a B-body car, originally.

Unfortunately I do not have any info on the engine build.  I see your point also, seems $2k-3k might be the winner

Thanks

Anyone buying would consider it a core, so value isn't great.
Just like complete cars, the value of the parts are 2-3x the whole.
You could part it out and get more money.
People are always looking for 440 period correct blocks, valve covers, oil pan, heads, etc.
But then you'd have to deal with the aggravation of dealing with multiple buyers and shipping.

Ask yourself, if you didn't know, what would you pay for it?

avatar_Katfish @Katfish I agree 100%!  Not worth dealing with taking it apart.  I have a guy locally that is interested, but neither of us seem.to know what it is worth, he keeps asking what I want for it, I keep saying make an offer!  I am going to tell him $3500 and tell $him to make an offer  :dunno:

I was thinking of pulling the carb and intake and selling that, and maybe the 906 heads. I would like to get $2-3k for it and be done.

Always great to get opinions here since there is a vast style of restorations everyone is doing so I get good perspective.

Hopefully the terrible video I posted will give some idea.of how it runs....
