Member @PLY474 supplied these excellent comparison photos of the current three different styles of carpet on the market.

Excellent topic, can't wait to see the results which hopefully includes where each of these are sold. Were all 3 types available when new or just the current aftermarket versions?

The loop style was all that was available originally. Cut pile and essex are  modern aftermarket.

What is the difference between cut pile and essex? Essex does look a bit more concentrated in its weave, but they look very similar.

Essex is significantly thicker than original. Need to 'massage' it a fair bit to get the sill plates to sit properly.
