@198D13
I didn't want to hijack the other thread for my following question.

https://forum.e-bodies.org/parts-misc-for-sale/9/cuda-challenger-radio-delete-plate/11031/;topicseen

I'm curious.

A62 and N85,
1.  variance by spd?

2. variance by factory?

3. Are there tags that have both?

4. Is this a 70 only variance, 71 also?  Or all years?

5. Broadcast sheet and/or build sheet difference?

Wouldn't A62 be a full package of sorts that would have been on the build sheet and the broadcast sheet.
The N85 would be a specific ordered part that someone checked when ordering and didn't want the multiple extra items in the A62 package?

A62
Rallye instrument cluster
Trip odometer, 150 mph speedometer, instrument panel woodgrain, Tachometer, clock, fuel, oil and temperature gauges, ammeter, 3 speed/Variable wipers, STD, charger @ Challenger R/T

N85
Tachometer

Could LA and hamtramck have done things differently?  For example, J25 & A62 could both be shown on the tag at LA, but at Hamtramck J25 was available as an option but on an A62 car the J25 was not on the tag.

A lot of questions in this thread but here is a bit of insight mostly from E-Body 1970 fender tags at Hamtramck and the real purpose of the fender tag.
The fender tag codes are there to assist the assembly line workers with the body of the car and the items to be attached to the car. That seems obvious but a lot of people think of the fender tag as a merely a documentation item. The Broadcast Sheet also informed the workers and that is why so many sheets (upwards of 50-60) were printed and were either with the vehicle or were matched, via part assemblies, as the vehicle went down the assembly line. A62 and N85 will always be on the Broadcast Sheet, if standard or optioned.

That being said, when it comes to A62 and N85 on a fender tag or not, the difference in the Challenger and Barracuda fender tags for 1970 has to do more with the specific model. I cannot speak to the 1971 model fender tags as I have a 1970 but you must think like an assembly line worker and ask yourself, "What does this car need to keep it moving?" in order to know why fender tag codes were there or not there at any given time during the model year.  Does it need a specific firewall or other body configuration to allow the standard or optional items to be installed?
This is why certain codes appear and disappear. The workers had frequently updated instructions and were briefed about as those changes were issued. Engineering drawings were updated as well so fender tags changed accordingly as desirable options became available on the base models.

JS Challenger R/Ts came standard with the A62 - Rallye Instrument Cluster group, the J25 - Variable Speed Windshield Wipers, and the N85 tachometer, etc. JS window stickers do not call out these codes as the first Sales Code is JS23 or JS27 and it includes them. The fender tag will have both A62 and N85 stamped.
JH Challengers could order the A62 package with N85 tachometer and J25 variable wipers. The fender tag will have both A62 and N85 stamped.

BS Cudas did not come standard with A62, it was optional. The fender tag will have both stamped, if ordered.
BH Barracuda could order the A62 package with N85 tachometer and J25 variable wipers. The fender tag will have both A62 and N85 stamped.

Summing this up...
The assembly of the vehicle with A62 and N85 needs specific items to be on the car as it is assembled. The instrument cluster, the tachometer cable through a grommet on the firewall hole, the bolt-on 3-speed wiper motor and arms, etc.
Certain options, like N85, required the full Rally Instrument Cluster whether you ordered A62 or not. 1970 would have both A62 and N85 stamped.

I hope this answers some of cuda hunter's questions.
EDIT: See 6bblgt's post below. Simple explanation, for sure!
