Hoping @6bblgt and @Cuda Cody may have the definitive answer. What is the difference between these two engines. I always thought the 2 behind HP2 just stood for the 2nd shift. My friend read Dave Wise's book and he tells me that in this book Dave infers that HP2 is for six pack engines?  My V code has an HP2 stamping but I have seen several other V codes which I believed to be original with just HP.  Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks

Your understanding of it and mine are the same. No difference in HP vs HP2.

correct, 2nd shift

there are 383 HP2s & 1967 440 HP2s  :o are they RARE six pack engines? NO!

:takealook: here's a '68 D 440 10 4 HP2 built in October '67 for a Charger R/T

2nd Shift.  With that said, A lot of the 1970 Six Pack engines I have seen have been built on 2nd Shift.   :alan2cents:

Thanks guys!  I just spoke again to my friend and he said that in Dave's book it states that the time between engine block casting date to vehicles scheduled production date could be twice as long with cars with HP2 engines compared to HP engines?  This is why he inferred from the book that HP2's were Six Pack engines.

Both are 6 pack engines, the 2 just designates the second shift.

I guess someone could poo poo a 2nd shift motor since they may be 1/2 asleep when putting it together.
