Ok...this is my state of confusion with the engine now. Sorry about the pics...best I could get without removing the headers.

Facts known;

SPD-Build sheet & fender tag: C10=12-10-73
Label on door: 1-74
Trans date: 4556= 1-17-74
Original intake manifold cast date: 1-3-74
this is where it gets weird...
Engine Block LS Front Stamped: 4W  360HP 3557 15669
Engine Cast date: 12-7-73.....but looks like 12-7-78
Engine Pan Rail Stamped correct to VIN except the 0 at the end is almost off the block

Now if the 3557 is correct it would be an engine built on 4-24-71 correct??
If it was 4557 that would make more sense as it would be one day after the trans with 4556.
What do you guys think of 1. the date code...2. the cast date...3. the zero on the pan rail??

Also...I'll post a rubbing of the rear which is a 489 SG. My question is the number 1903...is that a casting date and if so does it go by the 52 week or the calendar?

I would guess that is a simple stamping error.  It happen more then we want to believe.  Everything looks like a numbers matching car to me.   :alan2cents:  The rear end should be the 190th day of 1973.

Cuda Cody

Yes, 3557 is 4-24-71 so it's pretty obvious it's a stamping error of a 3 when it should have been a 4.

Ok great...had me worried when I saw the numbers all over the place on the engine. All the rest are there as well...cowl, radiator support and fender tag. Thanks again!  :ohyeah:

Oh one more thing Cody or anyone...the 15669 on the block...how is that deciphered?  :notsure:

haven't looked at too many '74 blocks, but I'd assume it's just a sequential "UNIT #" from the engine assembly plant

similar to your 7251 number on the transmission

I kinda figured something like that...just curious how to read it...or if it only made sense to them at the time.
