Hello,

I picked up a A727 small block transmission for my early build 340 Cuda.  The tranny # is 2892089 with date code 2440.  It has a partial VIN stamp as 9E10011.  Is there anyway from the partial VIN to determine what car it came out of?  I know it was a Los Angeles built car, and looks good for an early 1970 car.

I appreciate any help you can supply. Thanks!  Mike

The VIN number starts with "9E" which means it's out of an LA built 1969 car, not an early 1970 car. It's not from an E Body.

it would be from a 1969 340 Swinger or GTS

2892089  = A-body 340 727 1969-'70
2440 = 4/2/68 assembly date
9E10011 = 1969 model year LA assembled (missing a digit) ***** LM23P9E100110 exists, a white/red stripe automatic 340 Swinger

Take a close look at the connector for the neutral safety switch.   Is it 2 wire NS only or 3 wire which would then include the reverse light wire?   Im not sure which year Chrysler changed to the 3 wire...some 60's cars used the reverse switch on the transmission lever rather than the tranny...our E bodies depends on the 3 wire so as to include the reverse light.

Also some of the 60's transmission did NOT have the part throttle downshift in the valve body.
