am a collector from Russia. Last week, I purchased a solid 1970 Challenger 318 in Canada. The car is mostly original, except for the installed 360 engine. The issue is that to obtain all the necessary customs documents for registering the vehicle in Russia, the car must have all its original parts. For this, a preliminary inspection is required, during which the expert must confirm that the car is entirely original.

Yes, the 360 engine was indeed used in Challengers, but in our case, the engine has a 5-digit suffix at the end of the engine number instead of the usual 4. This has left my expert stumped. He cannot find any literature confirming that such numbers actually existed.

Could you possibly assist me with this matter? My engine number is 8W360 6018 23809. Typically, the last 4 digits represent the engine's serial number, but ours has 5 digits.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Boris

Well, a 360 motor was not offered in 1970.
A 360 wasn't an optional engine until 1974.

I don't believe the numbers you are referencing are the Vin numbers if that's what you're looking for.
It's difficult to assist without understanding the regulation
Does it need to be the exact motor that came with the car?? If so, that might be difficult for you to find the original motor.
Or, does it need to be an engine that could be offered? If so, then a 360 would work, probably.

The vin number is stamped on the passenger side just above the oil pan rail.

Yes, the expert must provide a conclusion confirming that this model could have been equipped with a 360 engine—that it was an option offered by the factory. The problem is that my expert can't explain why the engine number has 5 digits at the end instead of 4. Could it be that at the Canadian Windsor plant, where my engine was assembled in 1978, the motors were marked with 5 digits instead of 4 for some reason? Does anyone here have a 1978 Dodge Technical Service Bulletin that might explain why there are 5 digits?
