Can you pick the real Fender Tag?

That's a good question.  Things like the inspector markings and the bent corner for paint can be duplicated pretty easily.  But the letters used on a new tag are all about the same crispness (like @303 Mopar pointed out).  Now look at the original tag and you see that the factory letters that were used a lot, like B, 0, 1, 2, 3 are all wore down while the "J" that doesn't get used very much is super clean and crisp.  Click on the photo below to make it larger to see what I'm saying.  Hope that helps anyone that is looking at a Fender Tag.

And want to make it clear, I have nothing against reproduction fender tags.  I use them on cars so I can put the original one away for safe keeping.  Plus sometimes people lose them and the reproductions are a great way to replace them (if you know the codes).  But if someone tells you it's an original fender tag, you'll know what to look for.

I ordered a Fender tag for 66 Charger. But the Cuda is all original. I like your idea of putting the original away. That's kind of whats happening on the Plum crazy TA. his ex wife has them in the safety deposit box. I need to give him a call!!!!
