Ok, not a 100% definitive but at least it`s something, thanks to Dave at MMC.

"Jeff,
I spoke to Dave and he said that with some parts like door and hood hinges the stampings are often unique to the vendor. However, there is an ability for the vendor to understand the production information code for traceability for safety or manufacturing recalls. Often there is only 1 character that represents the year it was produced.

Have a great day.

Since all my originals have either 9, 0, 09 or 10 (depending on how they decode the year) that would make sense. Other parts have the first three as the day and last digit the year but I guess the hood and door hinges could read differently?

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the results.  Interesting find and a relief to know it's not a straight 3 digit day number followed by the year.  Not many people care about this level of detail but I like to learn so your findings are greatly appreciated.

My road runner is not being restored to the level where I am concerned at all about date codes and such but like you I like to learn this kind of stuff. I am using 3 out of 4 of my originals as they are in great shape but I am swapping out one of them for a spare in better condition.
