I was in a discussion over seat foam and was told that the seats in my 72 Challenger were out of a "B" body. I disagree. Is there anyway to decode the seat frame tag?
I tried to get a photo but that's a no go. the tag reads
3594769      26135
168S             HBB

Post a photo of the tag and seat.  I looked in the parts books for 1970 to 1973 for part number 3594769 and did not see it.

2 tags left & (right seat backs)  & new & old seat foams

70 Challenger Lover

I've always thought the only difference in the seats were the foams, tracks, and covers themselves and not necessarily the frames. I know the 70 frames are different than say 73 frames but I've had lots of 70 seats apart from b and e body cars and the frames sure looked identical to me.

3594769      26135
1682             HBB

3594769 = part # (for the seat frame)
26135 = vendor #
1682 = date 168th day of 1972 = Friday 6/16/72
HBB = ??? (possibly the vendor company's initials)

it's a '72 seat - what's the SPD of your Challenger?
the only '72 buckets with vertical pleats/seams are e-body

 :thinking:
are the springs part of the foam on your originals?
are the seat back release buttons "BLACK"?

yes to both of these, IMO would indicate '72 e-body  bucket seats

Dynamo

The lower photo is exactly what mine should look like but the top photo is awesome.

No springs in the seat back but I'm sure the foam is thicker than the 70 - 71. That has a down side in that both original foams were split in the center back

Cuda Cody

Do you have the springs for the seat back and are you putting them back in?

Dynamo

No springs in the seat back but I will reinforce the foam in that area. must be a change for 72. seems to be a transition year. plus it had me scratching my head when I came across the seat belt switch in the passenger seat

Cuda Cody

I'm pretty sure all e-body bucket seats backs had springs for all 5 years of production.  :alan2cents:

Attached is the new foam in the frame. This part is very close to the original & you can see that the foam seats against the frame at the lower end & allows no room for springs. The 70 & 71 foams are thinner in this area. The only steel in the foam are the rods to hog ring the center section of the upholstery to. The hollowed section in the center back is where both originals were split & will be reinforced by gluing material to that area.
