Vin tag stars

   Have anyone seen small stars on both end of the Vin Tag?

My 71 Challenger have them, but almost all do not.
I've talked to another person that has them, and they asked what they mean.
Anyone have any information on this?

I'll take a wild guess . . . Perhaps the two different plants that produced them 
or . . . the model year ??

Not year specific as my 74 has them.

Could they have been part of the process to hold them in place while stamping the VIN ?

I have looked through hundreds of 70 vin tags and have not seen one 70 that has the stars.  I understand they started this in mid 71 but I am just confirming non in 70 for sure. 

  Didn't any of the vin tags that have the stars have the stars on both sides of the vin.  Not just one side?

Mine has the asterisk on both sides.
