Y84.  What does it mean?
I can read in the book that it's NCS-dealer pre-service.
But what does that actually mean?

Wow.  Not even an opinion.  Definitely a different code.  I've never seen it before.

N.C.S. = New Car Service

I know that in LA & Chicago there were facilities that were contracted to perform the NCS for dealerships - I don't know if these dealers were just a showroom & lot and didn't have a service garage or that the volume of cars they dealt with was easier handled by outsourcing the NCS.   There might have been additional locations.

Dallas Smith Service Corp. was one such facility - it was located near the LA plant (the location became SHELBY when they were involved with Chrysler in the '80s - all the numbered SHELBY/Chrysler Corp. cars were built/modified there) - I'll "assume" this N95 '73 Barracuda was shipped there also.

here's a window sticker & pre-delivery check list from a '66 Satellite shipped to Dallas Smith  :takealook:

Thanks a ton!

So this New Car Service would have been used in place of the factory car detailers?  The guys that get the cars ready for the showroom floor?

Basically just a car detailing/cleaning service.

there's a bit more on the "pre-delivery service check list" - I don't believe the cars were "detailed" at the factory

At MCACN last year, my friend Glen had his 71 Challenger 340 convertible in the long time owner display. During the show, someone came up to him and said he worked at the New Car Service back in the day, and he remembered working on Glens car when it came in!
Glen bought the car used in '73, but it was always in the Chicago area.  It wasn't sold at Mr Norms but he may know which dealer sold it originally.  I'll have to ask him.
