I am looking at an add for a 70 AAR. Says it is rust free body but need restoration. Comes with completely rebuilt T/A 340 six pack motor with correct exhaust/intake manifolds and 3 new holleys. Has new complete exhaust system-new radiator. Doesn't say if it is numbers matching or what trans or any photos of the fender tag. 36,000 mile car. One picture of the car with the correct hood that doesn't look bowed but car is in primer ?
He wants 35,000.00 I thinking if it is NOT numbers matching his price is high. I have seen restored numbers matching cars on ebay for $ 65-75. Probably looking at 40-50 for restoration so is it worth it.

Hard to say without seeing detailed photos. What shape is the interior, gauges, wiring etc?
Then you have to take into account what are your plans for the car if purchased? Nice driver? or fill boogie rotisserie resto?
The rebuilt motor is a BIG plus providing its complete TA air cleaner to oil pan (block, heads, etc).
Also 4 spd Trans Am cars are always worth a bit more than their auto counterparts based on production, but that's relative to the buyer. Any paperwork? buildsheet, and I know you said there were no pics of the tag.
I'd get detailed pics, and talk to the seller to see what exactly comes with the car and was there previous body work before you even think about if it's a good purchase. Hopefully it works out for you!

I'd say it's worth it.....however you'll never restore it and flip it for more money ....

Project AAR's seem to be in the $20's all day long, so if it is rust free and he has a rebuilt motor and all those new parts, it's likely worth his $35K asking price.

Heck I'm asking $35K for mine and I don't even have a TA block in mine
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

I wasn't thinking to hard about buying it as I just sold my 2 cars because I just don't have the energy anymore to do a complete resto but I always liked AAR-T/A. I owned two 70 Challengers and thought it would be nice to own a Cuda. Then again if I retire next year as planed it would be nice to have a project :)

What's the problem? We really don't charge extra for the rust... It's free..... See?      Rust... Free!!!

I think this is one of those cars where you can be far ahead of the game by buying a nicely restored one. It's one of those oddities that bleeds you dry hunting down special stuff unique only to that car.

I understand the need to have a project though. I like tinkering on my cars as much as driving them. Fortunately, even restored cars are never really finished so you can buy a really nice restored one, drive it as often as you like, and still have a list going of small weekend size little things to tweak or fix on the car.

The 71 Barracuda convertible I picked up a couple months ago is such a car. Looks great, drives great but there are fifty tiny things that could be improved upon so I enjoy it every day I have off and I make it a point to tweak or improve things along the way. Rechrome a pitted item here, replace tired carpet there, 100 normal maintenance things in between. It has actually been quite enjoyable and none of them are particularly difficult or expensive or time consuming.
