Our car is still far from being back together and I am trying to assemble the parts for the engine and K-member assembly.  The hose on the bottom of the photo came off 10 years ago and the one on the top I bought recently going by the year, model, engine and type pump which is the Federal (Chrysler?) round reservoir pump.  Obviously the two hoses are quite different so is the new one correct and the car just had the wrong one on it when I got it or have I bought the wrong hose?  Catalog photos of hoses are awful but they all point to one similar in appearance to what I bought.  None of the hoses I have seen so far in catalogs look like the old one.
Thanks.

The upper hose looks correct for a Saginaw pump.  I'd go on Rockauto and look at hoses.  They usually have some good pictures and descriptions on there.

This one looks a little closer to the one you took off.

If you find a hose that is shaped like you need it to be, but the fitting that attaches to the steering box is wrong, you can buy a different fitting for the steering box to make it work.

The shape certainly looks right for sure but as you mentioned one fitting is wrong; two males vs male/female.  Is that even for a Cuda and if not.. what????  I don't see it listed as a option for a 72 or even a 71 at Rock Auto.
I don't get what the hell is going on with this car
Thanks!

I looked up 72 and 71 and didn't find it.  I found it listed under 73.

Aftermarket parts don't always look like the original ones.  If they can make a hose fit multiple vehicles by changing the shape slightly then they only have to stock 1 part.  If changing the power steering box fitting will solve the issue then that's your easiest route.(unless everything has to be 100% correct)

You are probably on to it with the one size fits many thing and I greatly appreciate your help.  I will work it out and if the new hose fits fine I will probably go with it.  I need to check the box now because I just remembered I had to get a rebuilt 73 box in order to fit the (available) pitman arm.  Seems they changed the spline count and there was no '72 arm to be found.
The fun continues.

:wrenching:
