Little spring for the E brake - where does it go?

I have a 70 e brake I have out of the car and working on (sandblast/ paint, etc)
When I bought it, it had a little spring taped to the mechanism. I've seen other threads here on a floppy pedal if the spring is missing, but where does it go inside the assembly? I looked in my FSM and it was of no help.

The picture above is NOT a 1970 E Brake. Of course 1970 are again one year only.


I know exactly the spring you're talking about, but it's really hard to describe where that small spring goes with out pictures :takepicture:

The long end of the spring goes on circle number "1"
Close the other end of the spring a bit and hook it on to the end of the lever in the other circle.
Spring runs inside of the channel.
It's meant to hold pressure on the lever to constantly engage the teeth.

It is a pain in the ass to install....

The Spring goes down the channel where I have it in the pic?

No...the spring runs inside that channel not on the outside like pictured above
