Can you explain to me how the " Clip / colllar " goes on the end of the  parking brake cable where it attaches to the body crossmember ? I'm taking about the front cable that goes from the pedal to the body crossmember.    Thanks guys !    Kevin

First I need to assume you have the correct parts, since there is an early version and a late version. This may help

The other end of the cable for me just goes into the crossmember. The crossmember is larger on one side, and smaller on the other so it acts as a retainer as a result. Since the cable is always under just a slight amount of tension it doesn't come back out.

Hi, I bought a complete set (parking brake ) from Inline Tube. I'm just not sure how the clip/collar goes on the end of the cable where it goes through the body crossmember. My set has the front cable ( which is the one I'm talking about ) ,   the shorter drivers side cable, and the longer pass. side.  Hoping someone may have a picture ?   Thanks Kevin

Bullitt-

Are you talking about the retainer that holds the end of the cable sheath?
Best I can recall is the retainer snaps in the crossmember then the cable end is inserted.

Yes thats it !!!!  So you are saying that it goes into the inside of the cross member then seated into the hole, then the cable is shoved into it ???   Thanks , Kevin

It's been 15-years so my memory is a bit foggy...
Maybe @anlauto can chime in with some clarification??

Yes, it goes in the body bracket hole and the cable runs through it. not sure if it goes on the cable before of if you put it in the hole and then pull the cable through.

I usually leave the retainer clip on the cable, then line it up with the hole in the crossmember and carefully tap it in with a hammer and screwdriver :alan2cents:

@anlauto yes I see that clip now; for some reason when I viewed this thread last time I saw Bullitt's comment but there my browser didn't load a photo.  Thanks  :bigthumb:

My primary cable has a type of steel collar or sleeve on it that does not appear (to me) to have a purpose

Aftermarket companies put a clip on each end, but 70's only use one clip.

@anlauto it is the sleeve being held up by the screwdriver that I am referring to.  Doesn't seem to have a purpose.

Yes, my old cable didn't have that sleeve, so there it sits unused.
