Is the coupler worn , are the shoes installed correctly inside the coupler ?
Have someone watch to see what is & is not moving when the wheel is turned

What has been replaced and what has not?  Could be the coupler?

If your coupler checks out okay there is a sector shaft adjustment you could try. Several videos on YouTube that explain the adjustment and the Chrysler Service Manual explains it clearly.

I'm also interested in what the group can figure out. I have exactly the same issue. My coupler shoes are tight, but the coupler itself does not fit tight on the shaft. It wobbles very slightly within the gear mesh. My roll pin is driven in so an equal distance is protruding on each side.  My coupler shoes are exactly at 13/16" to the gage hole. I read elsewhere that if the coupler shoes are not centered one could experience sloppy steering.

Are you seeing play with the engine ON or OFF?  With the engine OFF, the steering box will have quite a bit of play in it.  Once the engine is running, the pressure created by the pump will take up that slop and the steering box will be tight.

bc3j

Mine is engine ON. I'm starting to wonder if my rebuild power steering box is actually garbage. Might have to check FirmFeel or Steer and Gear, which is 2 hours away from me.

Burdar

Where did you get the box?  Your local parts store?  If that's where you got it, the only thing they do is replace the seals and resell them.

bc3j

Got it about 6-7 years ago from Classic. Still have the box with Cardone on it. Have the one that came with the car when I bought it. Had planned at some time in the future to get that one rebuilt probably from Steer and Gear because I can drive it to them in 2 hours. No shipping charges.

Burdar

I highly doubt Cardone "rebuilds" the steering box cores they receive.  More than likely, they just clean them up and install new seals.  I've read multiple complaints from people over the years that weren't happy with a "parts store" steering box.  I'd send it off to someone who actually "rebuilds" them.  :alan2cents:

Those were my thoughts. The extra box I have is the one to be rebuilt most likely by Steer and Gear in Columbus OH. I live south of Cleveland and it's an easy drive. I've had some conversations with them already and they want me to bring my original coupler for them to look at. I've been putting up with the steering for several years putting my resources elsewhere in the car.

@Cratos

Refer to headjm's drawing, and give the sector shaft adjuster a try... I had a 1/4 turn of the steering wheel after rebuilding my front end, and ended up adjusting sector shaft adjustment almost a full turn clockwise as looking down at it. You have to make sure it's not too tight, though.

I went in 1/4-turn increments and tested slop after each, then backed off a tad when it didn't seem to have slop...

Now it's like new!
