Great job Mike. We hate to cover that beautiful paint but it's a utility thing.

I managed to get a little bit done today....It's awesome that Mike over the years has made so many great restoration parts, some like the tail lights he has sitting on the shelf and others like the 71 marker light/ turn signals I sourced from ebay since there are very few around anymore... and when I pulled them out of the box all proud of what I found, Mike just smiles and says "oh you found a set of the ones I made years ago." I said it before and Ill probably say it again how incredible it is that Mike not only lets me work on the car there but offers his time and knowledge free of charge to help my build be that much better not to mention all the miscellaneous bolts, clips and hardware that he has offered to keep the build moving along instead of me having to stop and source the parts out. It feels like I'm going to a friends shop to work on my car instead of a high end professional restoration shop.
OK now on to the pictures from today....not much, but more like quality over quantity today.

I can't remember who was asking about Anti rattle clip for the door glass that help keep your glass in place at highway speeds but I posted a picture of where they go.....don't forget these on your assembly.

The serviceman that ordered this car checked off some great options for it, but painted racing mirrors werenít one, he also ordered door edge moldings (which were Shiny) over top of a black billboard stripe.

What do you mean "It feels like I'm going to a friends shop to work on my car instead of a high end professional restoration shop", I consider you a friend of mine now.   You better be calling me to come over when you need help on that car, as a friend, I expect it.  :drinkingbud:  Don't be selfish, throw some of that enjoyment around my way brother, I want to be there when you light the candle for the first time. :unitedstates:

So today was very informative for me as to the history of my 71 Cuda', yesterday my mom ran across a copy of my Title from 1990 that had the name and address of the guy I bought it from so I googled his name and found his information and this morning I knocked on his door and introduced myself and asked if he remembered selling a 1971 Cuda' back in February 1990 and his face lit up when I showed him a picture of how it looked when I bought it from him. I found out that he owned the car for more than 10 years and he repainted it several times because he was a paint and body guy, once Black and Candy Apple Red then back to Tor Red before I bought it. He bought it off his Ex-Brother in law who  passed away a few years ago. He purchased it from a Car auction back in the Mid 70's. He didn't think that the car was originally from this area. When he bought it from the Ex-Brother in law it still had the original paint, Billboard stripes and vinyl top but was missing the grille and shaker bubble but the baseplate was intact.  He found original parts since no re-pops were made available back then. When I asked about the wrinkled left frame rail he said he always parked it on the street by a curve where he lived back then and there was a bar down the street, one night a drunk left the bar and hit the left corner of the car when it was parked that's why it had a replacement factory panel on that side. He asked me if I still had the 383 that was in it when I bought it from him, he told me that the motor was from a 1969 Super Bee that ran 13.20's in the quarter mile and the clutch had a 6500lb pressure plate.  I remember,  it was so damn stiff to push, which prompted my next question  ..."Do you know what happened to the original motor ?" Apparently when it was bought from the auction it had a 318 2 bbl so... there's no chance of that lying around in the corner of his garage I guess. I asked about any old Pictures he might have and he said he didn't have any but he knows where there might be some and he was going to get in touch with some family members and see if they had any. I left him my contact info and as I left he said he'd like to see a picture of it when its done...I told him I'll bring it by and take him for a ride and his face lit up with a big smile again.
So... I now know the history back to the mid to late 70's but finding it past there will really be a challenge if not impossible. I'm hoping once it's done,  I can hopefully get it in some magazines with it returned to day one condition.  Maybe then someone will recognize it and get in touch with me about the history of it.
Pictures are from when I brought it home in Feb 1990, and the wrinkled frame rail.
