`70 road runner, FC7, 383, 727 It`s waited long enough, finally time

I bought this one back in 2000 out of NJ for $5000, matching numbers 383, FC7, black bench, column auto. I tore it down but it`s been pretty much just sitting awaiting restoration due to other projects that kept pushing this one back. I finally decide I need to get it done so I sold my `76 truck project to free up the time, money and space I need. Overall car is very solid just needs quarters, trunk pan and small patch on drivers floor pan - should be an easy job compared to the total rust buckets I usually work on.

So...Step #1 ..What are your plans for the build ? 100% stock resto ? stock resto with some added options ? resto-mod ?

95% stock looking with some added Day Two stuff like tach, slots, slightly raised in the rear. Matching numbers 383 is already built with a mild cam and port work but otherwise will look stock with factory intake and carb, may add headers but have stock exhaust manifolds as well. It didn`t come with an air grabber hood but it`s too cool an option not to add it but instead of cutting holes in the firewall I`m going to figure out how to make it work some other way. I`ll keep the stock hood if I ever want to go back to fender tag.

Hole for grommet for air lines going from air grabber to dash switch as it works on vaccuum. I`m thinking of using some type of actuator for the door that I can wire up to a switch so I don`t need to cut any holes.

I knew it needed at least a drivers floor plan but after cleaning it up I'll need to do complete front floor as some previous owner hacked in a 4 spd section instead of just the hump.

So I knew the car had quarter skins put on before I bought it but a quick look told me it was hack work, I just didn't know what was hiding underneath. A short time with my cut off wheel and air hammer I had the skin off. I already figured on buying trunk extensions but wasn't sure how the outer wheel wells were. At first I thought there was some hack patching on the lip but after closer inspection I realized it was the lip of the original quarter that they just welded the skin on top of. Other than a couple small places the outer wheel wells are solid.

I had a quarter skin put on my car back in the 90s that was done the same way, so it will eventually have to come off    Great thread, thanks for posting!
