70 cuda hood latch

Went to adjust my new hood latch and I cannot get it to release.Try to remove the latch but it will not clear the latch support.This is the first time I tried to close the hood.I am finishing up a complete restoration.I think I need to remove the grille.What is the correct way to adjust the latch?Why won't the  latch release.I haven't put the spring on yet.Does that make a difference for the latch to release.This is turning out to be a nightmare.

Does pushing down on the hood help to release it ?

No.That was the first thing I tried Alan.I think I will have to remove the grille to release the latch.What a pain.

Did you get it open?  I think you'd have to have an upward force on the hood to get it to pop up when releasing.

I think that is what the spring does.I should of put the spring on.I will mess with it tomorrow.I will bolt the latch back on and try the up force.If I can't get the bolts on the latch back on then I will have to remove the grille.Thank you for the help.

I know the spring does that. I should've been more detailed. Could you go under the car behind the grill and radiator. Then you could push up on the hood to give enough pressure for it to lift up while releasing the latch. Good luck!!

Got the hood up.I attached the latch and then I pushed up on hood from underneath pull the latch and the hood released.

Awesome, the smallest things can drive you insane sometimes. I've thrown and kicked so many things. Lol
