As the title says. My 74 has a black grille with a silver trim surround. I expect it's original but can't gaurantee it. Burdar's 73 has a black grille with the same trim and the outer band of the grille is also silver. I've seen others with a silver grille. What denoted the different treatments? Rallye? Year? You can see the difference in Burdar's car and mine here.

Rallye Package(A57 on fender tag) gives you a black grill.  Standard(non-Rallye) gets a gray grill.  The black grills were molded in black plastic.  Gray grill were molded in gray plastic.

This page lists the Rallye as coming with a black grill.

The lower plastic valance insert matches the upper grill on the Rallye.  I actually don't know if the non-Rallye lower insert was the same or not.

Non-Rallye gray grill I found online...

Bullitt-

I do see what your saying, Burdar has silver at the outer edge of the grille insert I don't see on yours

here is another example

Standard 72-74 Challenger grills were argent with a black lip. Rallye Challengers were just the opposite, black with an argent lip. As far as I know, the lower grill pieces under the bumper were all argent, regardless of grill color. I changed my grill from argent to black when I converted the car to a Rallye, and I also painted my lower grill piece black with the argent lip, to match the main upper grill. If you stand back and look at the front end, the upper and lower grills almost look like one big grill, with the bumper intersecting it. I thought my black lower grill was a nice touch, although no one but me has noticed it... :D

Burdar

My above picture shows the stock lower grill...black with the silver lip.

Sorry, I didn't read correctly. I sure thought they were argent. Learn something new everyday.
