A tidbit of paint code information

My search for the right information to replicate my missing fender tag has led me in different directions. On thing I noticed is that on the paint code charts the colours are identified with a letter and a number. Eg C7 for purple and B5 for blue. On fender tags the colour is listed with 2 letters and a number, as in FC7 and EB5. From what I've learned the first letter is the year that the colour was first available, E being 1969, F being 1970, etc. That's why there's EB5 and GB5, both blue but different shades starting in different years. I'm sure some here knew that but perhaps some didn't.

Yes technically the color code is just C7 but most will list it as FC7. The year code only matters for colors that were changed but still use the same color code. Like you stated there are numerous B5s so it matters which year code is used.

Here's a little E-body paint code trivia. Anyone know what 2 colors had the same code and colors for all 5 years of Challengers and Cudas?

Based on your comment, can I assume they skipped a letter designation?
My color is KY5.
Always believed that it is a single year color for the ebodies.
No longer "high impact" yellow.

I expect they skipped I so it wouldn't be confused with a 1. That would make K the letter for 74.

You are correct. They did the same thing with Chrysler 300 letter cars. !962 is a 300H, 1963 is a 300J.
