I'm preparing my new rear bumper & bumperettes for when the car's done and came across what you see in the picture. Since the plate is high on the reproduction ones the black plastic insert doesn't fit nicely. What are my options..

1. Live with it, I'm being too picky.
2. Re-use my originals (they have scratches).
3, Grind off & re-weld the plate lower.

I've never welded anything that was chrome plated on the other side so I don't know what, if any, the side effects would be. I have a hunch it would discolor the chrome but  :dunno:

Thanks
John

Re-chrome the originals..

In this area of Canada one could expect to pay $400.00 plus tax to have them re-chromed :o

John, I've bought a few sets of reproduction bumper guards and never run into that problem. Where did you buy those ? Might be just a fluke... :dunno:

Alan, got them from some vendor at the Nationals, God knows when. Those and a new rear bumper have been in my basement probably something like 20 years. I'm thinking they were probably a first run of reproductions before it was realized they were welded wrong.

I've been buying mine from Cross Canada in Brampton....I think there's and LKQ down in your area too ? Ask your body shop friend...

They are around $100/pr CDN  https://ecat.crosscanadaparts.com/base/partInformation.php?part=GMK242289570P&page=welcome.php

Thanks for the tip Alan, might be going to the body shop tomorrow.

Hey 1972V21Cuda, as a reference, I paid $226.00CAD (taxes in) for those 2 pictured belt moldings back on April 05, 2010. Yup, still had the receipt.
