Hello at the moment I am working on a friends 383 grand coupe with the gator roof option. My question .This is the first one I have seen here in Australia .  Now it might be A STUPIT QUESTION but is the material on this roof real gator skin or some type of artificial material. Again here in Melbourne Australia I not even see a gator in real live just at the zoo ,sorry this could be a very silly question. : P.S i wish I was better at taking pictures the car very nice as it is FT6 burnt tan metallic with PT65 tan deluxe seats and off course the V1G roof and 4 speed . :australia:

Yes, its vinyl but looks really cool

It's sort of strange, I think when new it's brownish colored but darkens over time to almost black.
I've been thinking of gator grain recently.  I knew a Mopar guy who passed away who had a purple car, with no vinyl to installed but the fender tag is coded for a gator top!
I try to picture what it would look like with that top.  Looking online I found pictures of a FC7 Charger with gator top. It looked ok but hard to tell from an online picture.
I am not excited by purple since so many 70-71 Mopars are that color and I like the seldom seen.  But that purple car intrigues me because it's so odd!
Gator grain looks good on burnt orange and brown cars.  I've seen it on B3 blue and don't like it.  Green looks ok.  There's a black coronet locally that has a gator grain top and it looks good. Same with the "black ghost".

You may check with SMS to see if they'd send a sample. They were glad to for my correct V1F top (which I purcha$ed from them).

Did you ever noticed that your green top from SMS was just black vinyl material painted green ? When I did that sunroof car, I tried to remove some glue around the opening with brake cleaner, and it started to remove the green paint too  :o
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

No time like the present!  Let's see some pictures.  No way to learn without trying.

Interesting color combo.  I've been looking for pictures of @Hemiken  ft6/t5 M46 for years. Bh code, ya know.

Gator grain would look stunning on T6!!

Now that is a beautiful car!   Those colors work so well on a cuda.
Thanks for posting up some info.  Definitely not Ken's car, but it sure is close.

Agree with painting the tail panel the correct color.
