Grill inserts; Help please

I need to swap the chrome grill bezels from my old grill onto a new one and before I proceed to needlessly break something  how do these little rectangular retainers come out of the grill? Do they stay on the plastic pins and come out as a unit, or somehow pull off the pins before removing the bezel, or are they supposed to stay in the grill and the pins are pushed out of them?

 The square barrel clip stays in the grill plastic.  Tap on the stud till it starts to move. Work your way around the studs. The studs are smooth unless you have corrosion.
Once the trim is off, the barrel clip can collapse slightly and be popped out.
