Im making new wire harness tabs for the tailpanel and driver's gutter. I found an engineering drawing from Nov 69 showing the tabs. My car (Dec 70 build) looks like it had 2 on the tailpanel, but the engineering drawing shows 4. (Plus a fifth sideways in the corner!)

The drawing should logically be for 71 production since 70 production would already be well underway by Nov 69. In fact, it had 2 revisions dated 70 though I cant make out what was changed.

Should I have 2 or 4? Should I also have the extra one in the tail corner near the jack bracket?

My 71 Challenger only has the four tabs under the taillight housings. None in the corner.

Thanks Terry, do you know the approximate build date or month for your car? Maybe it was a running change.

Mine also has only the 4, but is a '70. May have been different than the '71. SPD in January 1970 at Hamtramck assembly plant. I made my own as well. I just threw out a butt load of them. The fab shop had a minimum run requirement. They had been floating around my garage for the better part of 3 years. Got tired of them.  :D

Just to clear this up, i confirmed it definitely had 4. Apparently, when i ground off the old ones years ago, i saved one and wrote down its location in sharpie on the tab itself, knowing i'd forget like an idiot later.

F @Flatdad shoot me a reminder message and I'll get you a pic from my 70 Challenger. It's currently in Epoxy and on rotisserie. I'm not in the shop as I type this.

I appreciate that, but i've long since figured out my tab locations and welded 'em on. I can report that the rubber plastidip held up well during the welding process without melting off.
Now i'm on to battling rear valance fitment with a mix of AMD Goodmark and bent factory parts  :'(

Did you ever make these tabs? How did they come out? Any tips or tricks to making them/welding them in? I need a bunch for my 71 Cuda trunk. Thank you. Greg

Anybody have a copy of this engineering illustration for a 1971 Cuda? I have a bunch of wire loom tabs to make and weld in. Thanks in advance. Greg

I remember running across one for a 70, but didnt save it unfortunately. As for making them, I used plastidip in aerosol over mild steel. It adhered fine, and stayed on when welding, BUT it is way too thin to match the factory style thick glob coating. Fine for my driver rebuild, but not restoration quality. I also found that the gutter tabs are .5" wide and the trunk floor tabs are .625". They may be different lengths too. To do it over, I would have tried a dip coating instead of aerosol and I would have pre-formed them before applying the rubber.

This information is super helpful. I've got a few more questions if you dont mind

1. What is thickness of metal?
2. What are the lengths?
3. Did you make the metal yourself or have a metal shop do it.
4. If you made them yourself can you give me some insight into how you dud it.
5. What type of dip in plastic product would you use instead of aerosol plastic dip.

Any info you can provide would put me in a place to actually make these.

Thanks again. Greg
