Need some advice on removal and installation of the rear upper shock mount. My 73 challenger was bought not running and never knew one side had a big crack in it till the car was done and back on the road. Was making noise and tracked it down to a cracked upper shock mount. I have bought a new AMD replacement part. I'm wondering if it fits tight between the rear frame rails and how many welds hold it in place. Not wanting to take anymore parts off than I have to during replacement. I hope someone else has had to do this and can give me some good information about the removal and installation. Thanks for all the help in advance.

I'm not in a position to take a picture right now.  My rear shock mount cracked and came loose because the previous owner put in nasty air shocks, which put too much stress on it.  The only mounting welds I remember seeing on it were the 'tabs' that went under the frame rails. But this was 35 or so years ago, my uncle did the crack repair and welding the mount back in.  It was pretty clear where on the frame rail bottoms the tabs had been welded before.

I actually drove the car for a month or so with the super stock springs and no shocks.  Didn't really have any issues.

looks like there are more welds than the tabs as I drilled them out and it is still held in place with more welds on the ends.

Sorry I can't get to that area of the car to double check.  Its buried in gardening stuff for another month or so.

And sorry but I only recall the broken welds on the tabs themselves.  Found a semi-decent pic; maybe the folded in ends on it are tacked to the side of the frame rail.  Mine is a '71, perhaps a difference, even though aftermarket crossmembers say they fit all years.
