Quarter window felt bracket

I'm slowly getting the car prepped for new full quarters.  The last bit of the quarter is attached to a bracket that supports the quarter window felt/weatherstrip (as far as I can tell, that bracket is not there on the driver side).  Access is limited to separate the two in place, without swiss-cheesing the bracket that needs to reused.  I was considering removing the bracket from the chassis, separating the last of the quarter skin, then replacing the bracket.  Just one weld holding it to the body and I drilled the base for Cleco's to align it. That seem reasonable?  How do you guys go about this part?  Sorry for all the simple questions, but this is the first time through on most of this stuff for me.
