As the front end of my R/T starts going back together, I need to check on exactly what gets painted black versus allowed to remain body color. My R/T had some crappy replacement metal in it which I am fixing but it makes it hard for me to determine what it was like originally before I started in on the metal repairs.

I know the side radiator support panels where the radiator bolts to get painted black facing the grille but what about the top and bottom cross supports?

Also, the hood catch support pieces are closer to the grill and I can imagine they get black on the side facing the grille but what about the sides and top areas? Is it the entire hood catch assembly or just what can be seen through the grille?

As far as the glossiness of the black, what is correct? I have lots of semi gloss Imron which I like the durability of but it seems shinier than what I've seen on other cars. Is it supposed to be flat or semi or does anyone even notice little details like that?

Tried finding this in searches but kept coming up empty.

Thanks.

If you're looking for a rattle can black, the SEM "Trim Black" is really good for a can.

Thanks Cody. The pics help. I'm surprised how sloppy the original look was. I will likely make mine a bit cleaner and sharper even if it doesn't look quite original and correct.

I was hoping to use a gun to paint in the black just so it's more durable but if other people have used the rattle can with lasting results, I'm okay with that. Is the SEM trim black more flat then? It seems like everything you posted is fairly flat.

That's a great shot showing a few details I needed on the hood latch area. Curious about the other black on the fenders and cowl top though. Is those areas also black? I didn't know that. My cowl top  was black before I replaced it but I always assumed someone painted it black for some reason. I've never noticed the black strip along the fenders though on other cars. Mine had donor fenders so They were simply body color everywhere.

Oh good. I don't mind painting the upper cowl black like original but the engine bay looks much cleaner without any black inside.
