In order for my shaker with a new rubber seal to touch the hood enough to seal, a couple of the nuts that hold the shaker ring onto the hood rub. It appears that I might have to find a spacer thats a 1/4" less than I have.  Just how close does a proper fitting shaker to hood fit ?

The seal on my shaker touches  the bottom of the hood all the way around. The gap between the shaker and the hood is as follows. I used a 1" wide piece of plastic to measure. About 1-1/16 " on the passengers side. About 1-1/8" on drivers side. About 1-3/8" on rear and about 1-1/2" on front. Engine mounts and carb spacer will make a difference. 71 Challenger 340.

So, let me revise my numbers. I didn't know if you have an original shaker setup or the new AMD hood, etc. The previous measurements were taken by sliding a piece of plastic between the ring and the scoop. I took better readings by actually placing a  piece of plastic between the bottom flange of the hood brace and the top of the scoop edge. It's about 3/4"clearance on the passenger side and 7/8" clearance on the drivers side. I hope this helps.

Thats just about what I have. What about the rear ? I have 3/4".    The bolts that hold the trim ring to the hood appear to have been cut with diagonal cutter because theres a sharp angled edge protruding from the nut. I'm going to use a dremel grinder and smooth them out.  Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

About 1" at rear edge of trim ring brace to scoop. Here's a couple of photos showing that the trim ring studs are pretty much flush with the nut.

Eldebrock factory style intake and 750 holley. Currently have a 1" spacer. BUT, what I recently found out was I have a 440 shaker base on my 383 which is about one inch lower. I did have a 1/2" spacer. Looks like I need a 3/4" spacer if I can't grind down the bolts enough.

OEM the difference between 440 and 383 baseplate is a little less than 3/4", have them here beside me.

This all started because driver side of car was always hot during 75+ degree days and no matter what or how much insulating I did, it did not help.   :pullinghair:

One day this summer my wife drove and I had my arm resting on the door and noticed the air was a lot cooler than driver side.  Before I said anything to her, she asked me why there was so much hot air coming through her rolled down window. It took a couple days for it to sink in, that the shaker wasn't sealing and the engine heat was coming out.  I hadn't paid much attention and assumed the seal was rain protection only.  For a test, I glued some 2" foam to the hood to match up with the seal and everything was cool !  Now I got to get the glue off the hood. I was an idiot and didn't use easily removable glue.   :(

Just curious, where did you get your Shaker?

Was on car when I bought it. Isn't the first thing that wasn't correct.
