Time for paint

I've always loved that color. How far did you tear the car down for this paint job? I know this will probably sound really dumb.. But is the interior inside the vehicle still?

As it turns out the outside of the car and door jambs were slightly off in color. The pic with the stipe is the before pic. The interior is still in the car. They painted all outside, jambs, sills and eng compartment.  Also inside trunk lid and hood. Inside the trunk was the correct color.

They put a polyester guide coat on, let that sit a week then sanded and primed and let that sit another week prior to painting. Now the car is sitting about 5 days before they start to polish. In total the car has been there about 8 weeks including any body work that needed to be done.

So a little over two months start to finish.. Not bad, not bad at all.

I hope to do the same to mine at some point, she's a '73 and I want to shave the side markers, pull in the bumpers and remove the fender top turn signal indicators in the process. Somehow I don't believe I will have my car back in less than six months Body shops around here move so slow on these old cars, treat them like side projects while they bang out the bread and butter insurance work.

Will probably be 3 months by the time it is done...still not bad.....but remember it was a rolling car doing exterior, jambs, door sills and eng compartment only....with some body repair on whatever he found.

As Ledphoot mentioned around here a shop actually getting a car done in two or three months is a pipe dream.... Six months is very optimistic...  The only shop I know of that actually gets complete repaints in & out would be Miracle or Earl Schieb...... And allot of local classic/vintage car guys use them for just that reason.....  Is it a super quality job? No... But at least they can drive their car before they start receiving Social Security.....  I've seen everything from Porsches, Lambos & Panteras to Implalas, Chargers & Mustangs in the Miracle lot....

Miracle on 9th? They painted my brother's Mustang several years ago, it came out pretty nice actually. Would I take the Cuda there? Since I am looking to remove the side marker lights / fender mount indicators and antenna I don't believe they are a consideration. I'd like to use Campbell Auto Restoration in San Jose, but I don't know if I can afford them http://www.campbellautorestoration.com/gallery.php

I think Alan meant to quote my post above yours..... Miracle on 9th is Miracle Auto Painting.....    On 9th street.....  Strangely in this area it is very hard to find a shop willing to paint a complete vehicle... They all want insurance work only....  As I posted above the two shops that do completes are Miracle & Earl Schieb.... Earl Schieb does low quality work as expected... Allot of folks get similar work at Miracle but some folks get a pretty decent paint job....  I've never used either but I've heard from allot of guys the way to get a good job at Miracle is to slip a couple key people a few $$$
