I knew I would find something interesting when I finally got around to stripping the paint off of my trunk lid from my 73 challenger, as there is a couple of pretty good bondo cracks on each side, and on the underside you can see where it had a go wing sometime in its life, it was removed and the holes were braised over; plus they roughly hacked out some of the stamped structure underneath with an air chisel to be able to get access to the go wing fasteners.
Today I fired some stripper on while doing other stuff on the car, and where the wing was there is a bad dent with wrinkles that was poorly braised up and then filled with 1/4" of fibreglass reinforced filler.

So now that I know the extent of the damage that will need addressing, I see only 2 options; 1) try and bring the dents back up as best as possible, and then cut out the metal that is too badly stretched and make up some patch panels for the lid, as well as repair the structural stamping that was hacked out on the underside (I can make the panels no problem but would be a lot of work),
Or 2) replace the deck lid altogether if I can find another one.

Opinions?

Repair or find another original, I had to return the AMD trunk lid it was so bad.

If it's not rotted I'd fix it.

I don't like a lot of filler on a moving panel!!! It WILL crack over time from slamming the lid.   :alan2cents:

I second the idea of little to no filler in the trunk lid, the Repros don't fit like originals though.

Sounds like I'm on the hunt for a good condition original deck lid!

My AMD repro trunk lid fits horribly. Gaps, the shape- all wrong.  Might look for an orginal as well, my backup is taking it to this pretty awesome metal fab guy to persuade into perfect fit.

I found a minty one off of a 71 for $75 bucks; looks like it will fit great and only has a couple of very small usual dents
