Summary:
This R/T 440-6 has been modified to emulate the famous Vanishing Point movie car. The original automatic transmission was removed and replaced with a factory 4-speed manual transmission with Pistol Grip shifter. The single door mirror was removed and a pair of square chrome mirrors were installed. Front bumper guard vinyl are present. Hooker Competition header exhaust with what sounds like Flow Master mufflers. 02-2024 Panasonic battery (Group 27) installed in Tokyo, Japan prior to shipping.
The body is very solid. All original sheet metal except for the replacement of an assembly line rear dual exhaust valance. The original trunk pan is in remarkable condition, as are the inner fenders where the hood hinges mount. Original trunk extensions still have the factory locating tabs and factory spot welds to quarter panels. Damage to passenger side rear valance, not quarter panel.
The original FC7 Plum Crazy Metallic paint is still evident on much of the car. It went from the FACTORY Plum Crazy metallic to a green metallic, to a burgundy, then to the white exterior paint. It is a driver quality paint job and looks shiny and fantastic. Unfortunately, there is some over spray during the white paint process.
This is not a 100% perfectly restored car. Keep in mind that it was in Tokyo, Japan for decades. Maintenance and available parts access was restricted compared to the USA. I got it running late last year. It drives and is road worthy. The wire harnesses were a mess. I painstakingly removed, checked, repaired, tested, and reinstalled the harnesses.
Engine: The original numbers matching engine runs great. The partial VIN is very visible. Cast on 7-25-69. The flat pad on the 440 block is stamped F440 10-1 HP. Original cast iron intake with date 8-20-69. The 6 PACK carburetors are unique to the 1970 N95 California Emissions. The Front LIST-4175 dated 0879 and Rear LIST-4365 dated 2529 carbs are the originals. The Center LIST-4144-1 (AUTO) is a replacement with a 2212 (1972) date code. Original factory dual point distributor 2875982  (38 9) Current/y there is an MSD 6A ignition box installed.
Transmission: Currently there is an 18-spline factory A833 transmission installed with VIN: 9G268988 (1969 Plymouth B-Body Roadrunner or GTX) and a diaphragm type clutch. It shifts smooth and is relatively quiet. It has a 1970 E-Body Hurst Pistol Grip shifter with the slip-in feature. The shifter handle is missing the gear shift pattern lens on the top. The original factory numbers matching automatic transmission come with the car. The partial VIN is very visible. It is currently secured in the trunk. This transmission was lost, in Japan, for a very, very long time. Separated from the 440-6 R/T and forgotten about after the 4-speed conversion. I wanted to find it. I searched tediously for THE original transmission. Traveling to, and with the help of my friends in Japan, I found it! I purchased the transmission and all the removed items from the factory Auto/Slap Stick set up (torque converter, center console, Slap Stick shifter and linkage, floor brackets, under floor linkage and mounting bracket, and engine kick down linkage.). An almost unbelievable situation, to find it in Japan after (20ish?) years of separation from the car.
Rear Axle: Original 8 ¾ with a 489 3.23 Sure Grip with new rear u-joint.
Car is available for viewing. Please make an appointment.
