This is why the air cleaner needs to come with mounting instructions  :looney:

Pretty lame description.

I can't say I've seen anyone turn the air cleaner around like that.

But hey, it's as close to how it rolled off the assembly line as possible, right? Drunken Friday's.

I'll take you guys word for it, that its backwards.  I never paid that much attention to them, since I never had one. But thats the way I would do it, because its keeps bugs/trash from getting to the filter better and reduces turbulence from the fan.

I've had 3 six pack/barrel cars and I didn't know you could even do that with the air cleaner housing and lid.

If you read the fine print, it's actually a 4bbl car, had me confused as well :crazytalk:

If I recall, that was one of the reasons some of the 440 6bbl air cleaners had a deflector on the leading edge of the air filter.

I'm not so sure I'd want the "front" back of the big metal air cleaner sitting on top of (or nearly so) my distributor and coil wire though!

As a positive, it would make changing the upper radiator hose a bit easier.  I took the "as close to the way it rolled off the line as possible" claim with a 5lb bag of salt.  Playing "spot 10 things wrong", I stopped counting.  Unless, as Cuda Hunter noted, it was on Drunken Friday.   :)

It's not only backwards it's the incorrect baseplate and lid.
