Your assumption has to be true. Back in the day, I can't recall seeing a set of body color matching steel wheels on a car ... EVER. I didn't even know they came that way until OEM restorations became common in the more recent past. One can only imagine the sheer number of OEM steel wheels that got tossed for a set of aftermarket wheels back then.
