A friend of mine dragged this plane 318 1970 Barracuda home that has been off the road since 1984 and has this skid plate that appears to have been there since day one.
Parts book makes reference to 77 coin being on such.
I just wondered how common or uncommon it is on a 318 k-member

77 stands for k frame number 3466477
There were two k frames with this number, both for 1970 e bodies;

1970-440 w skid plate (early)
1970- 318 and 383 (late) no skid plate

There should be a date code to the left of the part number coin under the rust

That is odd that two different applications have the same part number?? Makes it all the more plausible that it may have been a simple matter of the assembly line workers grabbing the "wrong" number 77 and installing it on the car.
Cheers!

I saw that in the parts book, but that is what confuses me, K-member part number 3466477, 318,383 with no skid plate, so why is the skid plate there

ran into the same issue a few years ago - 1970 318 Barracuda with a 1971 dated skid-plate K-frame

I'd bet a replaced K-frame - what's the VIN on the Barracuda & what's the date on the K-frame?

Dan
I am not close to the car now, is at a friends place in NY...when I see it again I'll get the K-frame date.
I am starting another thread on the same car right now and will show VIN and some very interesting numbers on the rad support and cowl.
I'd like your take if you have ever seen anything similar.

I checked out this Barracuda again today.
Date number on skid plate appears to be 3039 2

mccannix

VIN is BH23G0B189488

0B189488 "SCHEDULED" 11/13/69
&
3039 = 10/30/69

the dates are possible, does it look like there was ever a sway bar bolted to the K-frame?    :dunno:  :clueless:

I think Dan is asking because if this K frame with skid plate was originally in a 440 equipped car(and then removed and somehow ended up in this 318 car), it would show markings of a previously installed sway bar on it.

Thank you.  That makes sense.
