II seen a Plum Crazy 1970 Challenger R/T for sale on New York Craigslist last month.  It had a 426 hemi that was not original with the hemi 4 speed and a dana rear nice paint $45K.  I just figured somethings up.  The add was soon gone.  Then the other day it appeared again with the VIN JS29ROB126551 also stating it was a clone.  I thought isn't that a real factory hemi car VIN?  I Googled the VIN and seen it was briefly on EBAY right after the craigslist add with a note removed from the listing due to sellers error with several bids just over 40K and reserve not met.  I looked at the sellers other items for sale and he mainly sell fire truck and related items.  So it was late so I called the next day and spoke with him.  He stated he got a deposit wired from Ohio the prior day and the car is sold but said he would call if the deal falls thru.  he called me and said the guy is coming the next day.  He then called me the next day and said the buyer picked the car up and is going back to Ohio.  So I then asked him about the R code since the car was gone. I did not know if he was aware of what the R meant and did not want to bring it up while I still had a shot at the car.  He responded the car was originally a 383 car and it was combined with hemi parts car in the 1980's and the result is this car which he calls a clone.  What do you guy think of this?  Also, he got $40k for the car.

Sounds like a mess to me. Maybe an R-code dash pad that doesn't match the cowl and rad support #'s.

It was still on craigslist this morning and if you google the VIN the original ebay add comes up with all the pix.  The title or in NY the transferable registration has the R code VIN so no problem transfering it.  But it probably has no torque boxes on a former 383 car.  Also, the other numbers won't match.

Hmm: Lots of parts there. This would be good to pull parts from to restore the real R-code for sale on Ebay. Then sell the leftovers. As long as your hands didn't burn pulling the parts off.

It will probably turn up for sale as an original car for a lot more money at some point.

That's what I was thinking also.  I placed the VIN here so it can be identified later by any future buyers that search it before buying.  I was just looking for an affordable non-original e body with a hemi in it and came across this.  They are usually in the 60K range.  I wonder what the numbers on the block are maybe belong to another car/owner that would love to have it.  Since the vin was moved I wonder if it is even a legal car to own.
