I know there are a lot of gray areas, I wonder what variation can be sorted out.

Are the production dates for 1971 model cars?     1-1-70  to  12-31-70 ?

The items that changed somewhere along the line:
- engine color, orange or blue
- floor drain design
- Trunk hole location

this is all I know, maybe you guys can add on.

Are these changes applicable to all 1971 cars regardless of production date:
-Is the dash always different
-All columns changed but the steering wheel remained the same as 1970 ?
-I just found out radio was the same for 70-71.
-Hood crumple zone ... all 71s ?

maybe there is too much to list.  thanks !

There is a thousand things that changed...My favorite is the inner rocker panels and how the floor pan welds to the rockers...70 is unique and quick way to tell if a 1970 car was rebodied using a new shell... :alan2cents:

No pictures handy, but basically the 70 inner rocker is flat and the floor pan has 90* edges that spot welded to the rocker...by 1971 the inner inner rockers had a ledge and the flat floor pan just sat on top and was welded along the ledge of the inner rocker..

Major difference in the manufacturing technique  :alan2cents:

!971 is the model year.
Model year production runs roughly from September to July. So 71 model year production would be Sept 70 to July 71.

I trimmed the tab in mine, didn't like having to use the key to lock door.

My 71 had 70 rear floors in it from the factory. I found out when I had to replace the rotted floor and the seatbelt holes were in a different location. I guess they use what's left over when they can.
