70 Challenger inside door window weatherstripping mystery

Hoping someone out there has done this and better still has pictures.


When I started to replace my door window weatherstripping on my 70 Challenger I didn't know I would have such a difficult time determining how to attach the replacement 'strip to the top of the plastic inside door panel. The blobs of glue and mismatched screws didn't look oem and everyone I ask gives me a different answer as to what is correct. Have any of you replaced yours, and how did you fasten it in place?
In the mean time the doir panel is sitting on the passenger seat, waiting....;-)

The inside interior panel weather-strip simply clips onto the plastic panel. Are you interior panels factory original or reproductions ? There shouldn't be any screws or blobs of glue involved.

Yes, my are 70 originals but the fuzzies clearly are not, and the replacements have no clips. The outside fuzzies have clios and snap into the metal door edge quite nicely. If there are clips of some sort for the inside, I have never seen them. Anyone have a photo?

The weatherstrips aren't held by clips, the whole inside edge of the weatherstrip should have a groove, and the top edge door panel should slip into that groove..

Photos for reference. This is what I removed. The replacements have the same hole pattern. If it should be screwed, what kind of screws? If clipped, what kind of clips?

What brand replacements did you get?  The only ones to buy are the "Top Cat" brand..  Clean all that crap off the panel & take a look at that top edge, it should have a slight groove that the weatherstrip grabs onto...

I will clean it up, but you had to see it to appreciate what I'm up against. Stuff is REALLY thick and still pliable. It will take a while.

The outer weatherstrips on 71^ E bodies are screwed to the door, 70 only are clipped to the door..

There is another company that makes weatherstrips, highly inferior product, Their inner weatherstrips are pop riveted to the door panel with spacers....    They were the only supplier back in the 90's, their stuff was such crap that even though I'd bought it, I refused to install it & just reused my originals which were in poor condition....

cqm964 what kind of shape are you panels in? Cause Roseville has new panels that are very nice....  (And I love spending other peoples money )

I have both inners and outers. The outers clip to the door no problemo. It's the inners that attach to the top of the plastic inside door panel that have me flumoxed. If it should be screws, clearly not the ones Bubba used ;-)
