No question the old but decent merc chassis needs to evolve .
Electric is not a bad thing either , electric performance can easily exceed gas .
The big limiting factor is battery tech right now although Fisker supposedly has batteries that will recharge in 10 min now .
Hybrid seems to be the best option as it gives unlimited range with crazy performance , Trains engines are hybrid diesel electric & have been for decades .

Unfortunately electric cars are the future all around. I say unfortunately because future generations will never experience what we are so lucky to have lived through.
The sound of a internal combustion engine lighting up the tires.  The smell of that fuel burning. I am truly glad to lived in this time. The future is not for me.

Well, they can talk about it all they want, but the bottom line is, if they can sell enough of the electric ones and I don't see the consumers who're buying the IC cars right now frothing at the mouth for a Mopar Tesla, quick as they may be. 71-440 said it well, there's NO replacement for the sounds and smells and performance of an IC car and I, too, am glad to have lived in the IC car's heyday! To hell with your electric, over-sized slot car.

My friend's Tesla S does 0-60 in like 2.3 seconds, He wants to get the Roadster that is supposed to do it in 1.9 seconds. That along with the autopilot makes for a pretty fun car.

...and a pretty decent driving range too.

I'm being socially correct..  I have my 1970 Challenger with a 572 gas guzzling engine and my wife drives a Prius that uses gas to charge the batteries for electric operation.

OMG  :looney:

To me, performance is the main factor. If it goes fast and kicks a$$, you will like it.  :burnout:
It may be different, but you will learn to appreciate it.

While electric car technology isn't quite advanced enough for me to make the switch I did purchase an electric powered bicycle last spring.

My wife is an avid trail and mountain bike rider and she almost killed me on a few of her 20 plus mile rides in the hot summer.

After one particular long hilly ride I went home and started to research electric bikes and after doing some research I pulled the trigger on a fat tire electric beast.
It's a blast to ride and I honestly keep the electric motor turned off 75% of the time and just pedal it, but when I get tired or we get to the steep hills I hit the throttle.

Now when the wifegod asks to go on bike rides I just smile and load up the bikes, I really enjoy my electric bike.
I think my wife might be getting an electric bike of own for her birthday in the spring.

All mass production product lines have to meet continuously stringent standards for fuel economy.
If a given platform can improve efficiency tenfold for the masses that are built. It provides the base opening to allow the solid combustible performance versions to be sold without fuel requirement issues.
