You should have the short shaft, the two longer shafts won't fit with the regular pump.... The longer shafts are for the single & double line external pick up systems....

Agreed: The longer shaft pokes out the bottom of the block more because the oil pump itself is thicker so that end has to be longer.

3 shafts made by Milodon are that 2 are for external oiling systems and one for internal pick up.

So I have the right shaft it appears.

Last time I did my timing, it was jumping around occasionally.
So  I'll get this as cheap as it is.

By this Friday, I had what I thought would be everything to start getting ready to put the new distributor in and fire it up.

I asked my friend to bring over the special tool so we can replace the bronze bushing for the oil pump gear shaft.

He showed up and so the first thing is go pull out the shaft.
It was stuck yet there was some play.  Uh Oh!

Used a spark plug boot puller tool and it finally came out.
I'll show these pictures and then say after you see them what my game plan /strategy is next.

Dang man, that's messed up.  You're going to need a new cam I suspect.  What do you think caused it?  I've never seen a gear shaft so that.   :Thud:

"Just curious what timing you are running? Just wondering if the timing slipped or the hold down came undone.  It's odd that you were driving fine and then pow, not running."

Had to go back and look, but my thoughts at the start were it was a timing issue.  I would have never guessed the gear was messed up, but looks like you found the problem.  Now what the heck caused it to do that?

Haven't checked it yet but it's all getting replaced.

The Cam gear looks alright. No teeth missing or scarred.
We cranked it over 2 or 3 revolutions and checked it out and no damage.
Harder metal would likely be the reason why.

The shaft is a Milodon.

Gameplan:

Put shaft on a lathe and check straightness at a CNC machine shop. Also their marble straightness table.
Drop oil pan and clean out any metal shavings.
Change oil and filter.
Put magnets on pan and on filter before running again.
Call Milodon and Bullet racing Cams about issue.
Replace bronze bushing.
Check for play at oil pump using priming tool and see if there's any slop.
If necessary, replace oil pump. But for now it might not be the problem.

Calling Bullet Cams and ask if they have to have a specific teeth mesh for their cam.
I wouldn't believe so but let's not assume anything of course.

If timing slipped, it wasn't from the hold down. I always made sure it was cranked down tight.

Looks like Don was right. He told me it was something internal.
I called him and showed him the pics by text. He wants to keep up what it was that I end up finding out more about.
