Hi enthusiasts, Slant6 E-body Al here, was wondering. My 70 Slant6 Challenger that I've owned for 50 years or so. Things I do know about it after picking up bits and pieces, are it is a very early build, #113, off the LA assy line. Is a basic model yet has SE/WSS trim inside and out but no indication of this on fender tag. I have googled and checked on line early LA fender tags, but not a lot of 6 cyl cars. Prior to my cars SPD which is 818. The promo, executive leases, magazine thrashing cars are the ones I've found and a lot are V8 cars. I was thinking could my Challenger maybe be the first 6 cyl car off of LA's assy line, or am I incorrect in my thinking on this. Before mine I have found no 6 cyl cars on fender tags I've seen over the past 5-6 years on line and at the Mopar shows. Help me out here gang, this has had me wondering for quite awhile now.  Thanks for any info you may have,    Al

VINs are assigned, in numerical order - not built, in sequential order
VINs are assigned in "alphabetical" batches (at LA) - Barracuda (B) - Challenger (J) - Belvedere (R) - Coronet (W)
the first "scheduled" day of production at LA for the 1970 model year, is 818 - Monday August 18, 1969
your car: JH23C0E100113 is the lowest production Challenger VIN I'm aware of; the highest Barracuda VIN I'm aware of, from the first batch, is BH23G0E100091
................................................. so the question is: are there any /6 Challengers in the 21 LA VINs 0E100092 thru 0E100112?

IMO the added trim is from: the original dealer, a prior owner or the car lot you got the car from - all in an attempt to make the car more appealing

JH23C0E100123 & JH23C0E100192 are 2 other /6 Challengers from that initial "batch" of assigned VINs

Thank you Dan, I thought you'd come in on this. I really appreciate the info you have on these things. Yes, my Dodge is a very early Slant6 Challenger build out of LA. You are correct in thinking was I interested in finding out is this  car the first 70 Slant6 Challenger to roll off LA's assy line. So is there a chance it may be the first or just a very early build not knowing if it is or not.
I originally bought the Challenger from a Dodge dealership as a trade-in with 40K on it for $1,100.00, here in the town I live in. To my understanding the car was a lot lizard for 8 mos. being sold as a new vehicle on April 22, 1970. As for the SE/WSS trim Govier thought the same thing when I asked him what he thought about it at a Spring Fling Mopar show here in SoCal several years ago.The Dodge dealership was Moss Motors Dodge in Riverside Ca. where the car was originally purchased by original owner then he traded the Dodge back there for another car and I came along and bought it. He was a young Marine driving it daily from his city of residence to Camp Pendleton. Thanks much,   Al

So Govier thought all of the SE/WSS trim I found my car in could've very well been put on the car to make it a little more appealing to sell, maybe easier to get rid of it. I thought maybe it was one of those cars sent out to the dealerships and told to "Sell It". Then again the customer buying the car could've made a deal with dealer, add this and maybe that and I'll buy it.

Car was sold new somewhere in the Whitefish, Kalispell area of Montana. Very similar to yours! The door jamb sticker says

Also:

It also has an 818 SPD.

Thanks 198D13, you definitely have a couple of early LA builds like. Your barracudas are both early one before mine and one after. The before one is 100076 but is a 383 2bbl car, still a V8 model with an 818 SPD like mine. The other one you have with an 820 SPD, two days after mine is a 225 Slant6 like mine, a barracuda #395. I have poured over fender tags on line the past 5 years or so and have found no Slant6 e-bodies out of LA. Nothing before my #113 that would be a 6 cyl car.just trying to see if my Dodge is a first e-body with a Slant6. Thanks again you have early ones there.

Thanks Alan, having a senior moment here, went back to 198D13's reply and you are  absolutely correct a JH23 Challenger with 100395 sequence. Was hoping for any early LA built e-body with earlier assy line sequence # with a 6 than mine. Nothing so far. Thanks again.

Hello @198D13 your 70 LA built Barracuda, I think I used to own it back in the early 90"s, does it have the M46 option? It didn't have the 383 in it when I owned it. I bought it out of Belingham Washington with a non running 440 in it.
Last I heard it was in Alberta?
