Do I have 63,000 miles or 163,000 miles on my Challenger?

That's pretty clean, I would guess 63k but without written records/proof there is no way to know for sure.

Not to rain on the parade but what would it really matter in the end? It's kinda cool to know but if the car is restored, no one really cares about previous mileage because restoration essentially resets the clock back to zero. If the car is not restored, people only really ooh and ahh when it is under 20k mileage and in pristine original condition. Some of these cars remained on the road for decades and accumulated tons of miles and some broke down sooner that they should have and got parked out in the weather when they could have been repaired and put back on the road.

The engine may run nicely now but if it has 60k original miles, it is already getting tired. I've pulled apart a lot of motors that showed 100k miles only to find that they had already been rebuilt before and I was really looking at a 100k - 200k mile car.

As far as indicators, I agree that they best ones are steering wheel and brake pad wear marks. No one ever changes pedal pads out or refinishes original steering wheels unless it was part of a larger restoration. Other indicators can be helpful but I think these two things reveal the most accurate assessment of actual mileage.
