Electric trunk release

Has anyone had luck adding an electric trunk release to an e-body cuda?

What did you use?

I attempted to adapt the original release mechanism, but it seems the internals are hardened so my plans of drilling/tapping aren't working out so well.

No problemo.  That task is on my list, I think I have everything, but haven't installed yet.  You do have to cut out part of the backing plate so the lid will close.  I guess some of the latch area will not close unless there is some trimming done.  So when you get to it, show us the process you used.

Somewhere I have a plastic internal box for the glove box that has a factory "trunk release". I think the push button switch is in it too. I think it's from an early 70s Charger so not sure if it would fit an E-body. I'm out of town for a week or so but let me know if you're interested.

  :)I installed an electric trunk lock from an old junkyard C barge. I used a controller and key fobs from an old chevy cavalier and a relay and wired it into the factory interior lights (just like it was in the cavalier). My trunk can be worked with the fob or a trunk lock button inside the ash tray. I also installed electric door locks controlled with the same key fobs (more here https://forum.e-bodies.org/interior/6/power-door-locks/10371/msg143101#msg143101)  Jess

I had ones off of a diplomat on both my hood and trunk a decade ago. I didn't have a cable hood release and daily drove the car, the hood latch gave me a little security.

@GoodysGotaCuda, I'm also planning on a hood pop. Were you able to keep a manual release for emergency?

Was anyone able to maintain the manual keylock with the new electric latches?

I have the battery in the trunk and would need manual access in an emergency (dead battery or fire).

I was able to use a small flathead screwdriver to operate the latch if needed.

Yes, trunk lock and door locks work as usual with the keys.

@jt4406, I'm leaning toward finding a C body trunk release for my application. Do you remember what year/model you used? I'm not familiar with C bodies at all.

Keep an eye out on Ebay.  There used to be a seller that sold everything with button switch, oem wiring, and latch.  That is where I got all of my stuff.  I believe with the Challenger, there is no trimming, but with the Cuda trimming is required.  Also, you will need to keep that old latch you have and switch out the part with the arm.
