Factory 318/4 speed cars?

A discussion on the FB E-bodies group about whether or not 318 cars were available/built with four speeds, anyone have any documentation of availability or actual cars?

 ... It just occurred to me I have actually known one although at the time it had a stroked 400/6-barrel under the hood...

If you remember MoparAl's M46 Barracuda it was originally a 318/4-speed

How about other years? The car originally being talked about is a `73.

My stepfather purchased brand new a 71 Challenger with a 318 and a 3 speed manual. I would guess that would be more unusual than a 318 with a 4 speed?  Not sure why anyone would go for a 3 speed over a 4 speed?   I know Judy's story, makes me smile every time!

Side Note: If memory serves me an acquaintance bought a new Aspen around '76 with 318/4-speed

I think back in those days, even if it wasn't "available" they would likely still build it for you if you wanted to pay for it

Not sure where the info came from but found on wikipedia "For 1973 federally mandated safety bumpers were added front and rear, and the 225 six was dropped, with the 318 and 340 V8s being the only engine choices. For late production 1973 cars, and for 1974 a slightly more powerful 360 V8 (245 E bodyhp) replaced the 340. As since 1970; optional was a four-speed manual transmission (equipped with a Hurst shifter) mated to a performance ratio (3.55 to 1) rear axle for the 340 and 360 engines, though as many as three cars (in both 1973 and 1974) were built with the 318 engine and Hurst 4-speed thru special orders or factory errors."

think I do see a z-bar pivot on the frame rail

Probably the more likely scenario assuming the 4spd.
My 74-318 was a 3spd.
