Saw a pic on FB that had 340 four barrel decals instead of metal emblems on the hood, someon commented that early A66 cars had them, anyone confirm that?

A reply - "Phillip Haramia -  Decals, as Ben mentioned were used on early A66 Challengers because Ma Mopar was not originally going to put a 340 into a performance Challenger. It was a late decision with the formal release of A66 Challengers not happening until mid to late September. The decals were used up until ABOUT December 1969 when the metal call outs were finally ready. I am tracking A66 cars in the Registry and document any A66 that has the decals. When I bought my A66 vert in 1979, I thought the decals were something that someone had made up, never thinking they were actually factory. (The decals did have an original Mopar part number). I encourage A66 owners to register their cars. It is one of the details that I do track about our great and unique Challengers."

I learned something new today and it`s still early, guess I`m going to call :D it a day and go back to bed, maybe get rid of this headache.   :D

There was a discussion years ago on Moparts about this.  People posted pictures of those stickers but most thought they were a custom touch from back in the day.  It wasn't until someone found some NOS decals with a part# on then that it was confirmed they were factory pieces.

Coincidentally I saw a car at Carlisle this year with them. Really cool you almost don't even realize they are decals at first glance. Here is a thread with some good info -

My October A66 had a flat hood so not sure where the decals would have went.

That's interesting since the A66 package included the Rallye hood.  I would love to see the build sheet for your car if it came from the factory with the flat hood.
Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

That's my car at Carlisle. I got the decals from a member here last year

I've heard the really early A66 cars came with flat hoods.

At least one other A66 is documented with a flat hood from factory.
One possible explanation is that the Sport hood was part of the package (Like on an R/T) and was not actually listed on the fender tag. It was not available separately, Line workers might have not been familiar with the A66 package (introduced after start of production), saw JH on VIN and figured it needed a flat hood?
Most documented ''hood decal'' A66's also got the V8 emblems on the fenders, like the 318 cars, adding to the confusion... The V8 emblems were also phased out at the same time as the decals.

As a reminder; DetMatt1 on FEBO has two sets of reproduction decals left if anyone needs them.

Post from A66 site on Facebook" Hi all. I am DetMatt1 on FEBO and I'm down to 2 sets of reproductions and the NOS pair. I have no plans on getting anymore made. I get $40 a pair for the new ones and I paid $250 for the originals which is what I'd take for them. Nice cars gents! I love the A66 package cars."
